NEFAC’s Emily Sweeney of The Boston Globe to Discuss Disinformation, Election

Emily Sweeney, a reporter for The Boston Globe and a member of the New England First Amendment Coalition Board of Directors, will discuss media literacy and the upcoming elections during a free online presentation later this month.

Sweeney will be speaking as part of NEFAC’s Featured Speaker Program. Launched in 2018, the program brings journalists and First Amendment experts to campuses and classrooms throughout the region.

What is Fake News? How can you tell what you are reading is not false information? What is a trusted news source? How does this relate to the upcoming presidential election and how you make your voting decisions?

LAURA SAUNDERS | Saunders teaches and conducts research in the areas of reference, instruction, information literacy, and intellectual freedom. She has a strong interest in the connections between information literacy and social justice issues, as well as in the impact of misinformation and disinformation.

EMILY SWEENEY | Sweeney is a multimedia journalist at The Boston Globe and author of the book “Boston Organized Crime.” She has been a staff writer at the Globe since 2001, and her work has been featured on the Howard Stern Show, WBZ News Radio, New England Cable News, and other media outlets.

The discussion will be moderated by Sandra Rothenberg, senior librarian and coordinator of library instruction at Framingham State University.
